Tutorial made for Cinema 4d but can be applied to almost any 3d rendering program.
If you have any questions please feel free to note me... I must admit this is somewhat inspired by $dj-designs orb tutorials... yet with my own take on it and made with the 3d artist in mind.
It should be easy to follow and I've included the source files for reference only... not for reuse... so make your own balls.
EDIT The top image was created tweaking and moving some of the settings I mentioned in here... good luck. Also this is just a variation of the 30 some avatars I've uploaded recently... just letting you all know I'm still working on other art as well :-P
